What to Look For
‘Electronics experience’ is not a certification. Confirm the exact standard — IPC-A-610 for inspection, J-STD-001 for hand soldering, IPC-620 for cable and harness — and the certification date, since IPC credentials expire and must be renewed.
A soldering tech should be able to produce an acceptable joint on your equipment, not just describe one. Insist on hands-on or video skill verification before placement, especially for rework and fine-pitch SMT work.
Electronics QC standards leave no margin for ‘close enough.’ Screen for workers who have operated under documented inspection criteria and understand why a flagged defect matters — not workers transferring straight from general labor.

IPC-A-610 is the acceptability standard for finished electronic assemblies — the QC and inspection baseline. J-STD-001 certifies the hand-soldering process itself.
